Recycling Prescription Eyeglasses

Vision Source / Rebman Eyecare provides a local recycling center in Elizabethtown for prescription eyeglasses.

The World Health Organization estimates that corrective lenses can improve the eyesight of one-fourth of the world’s population. Unfortunately, for many people a pair of glasses is both unaffordable and unobtainable. The donation of old but useful eyeglasses, no longer needed after LASIK vision correction, cataract surgery or following a prescription change, to the needy in the US and abroad can help solve this problem.

The Lions International and local Lions Clubs conduct eyeglass-recycling programs. Used glasses are cleaned, repaired and classified by prescription, then distributed free to needy people in developing countries around the world.  Chapters collect the used prescription eyeglasses, reading glasses, and even sunglasses, and then package and ship them to the centers.

 

Recycling Contact Lenses and Contact Lens Blister Packs

Vision Source / Rebman Eyecare is a collection center for the Bausch & Lomb One by One Free Recycling Program affiliated with TerraCycle.

We collect used contact lenses and blister packs (foil and plastic container – no fluids) and send them to TerraCycle for recycling.  For every 10 pounds we collect, a $1 per pound donation is made by Bausch & Lomb to Optometry Giving Sight.

This is an excellent option especially for daily contact lens wearers.  All brands including Bausch & Lomb, Alcon, Coopervision, and Acuvue are accepted.
